Band Members: Cove Reber, Beau Burchell, Justin Shekoski, Chris Sorenson, Alex Rodriguez
Can you first say your name and what you do in Saosin?
Beau: I'm Beau and I play guitar.
Saosin is currently in the studio recording a new record, how are things going in the studio?
Beau: Great so far, we're almost done and then we're going to leave on tour around the 15th of October and then we come back in December to finish up.
Right now your in the Hurley studios recording and fans are able to see you guys in the studio via live webcams, is this something we can continue seeing for your next albums?
Beau: Umm I don't know yet, we'll see how it turns out.
The band has been together for a while now, since then you've had a few EPs a full length and a record coming up. How have you grown since then? Have the writing or recording styles changed since then?
Beau: Umm I don't know its a hard question to answer because it really just feels like yesterday to me. So you know, I don't look back, oh I was this way 4 years ago.
What can fans expect to hear from this new CD? Will there be any screaming?
Beau: There might be.
In addition to the new CD, you will also be releasing a new EP coming out in October, can you tell me a little more about that?
Beau: A while ago we released a black EP which had some demos and acoustic songs for the record coming up. So thats kinda what this is. Were trying to do those kinda before the record for the really die hard fans that will like that kinda thing.
After that tour do you have any other headlining tours coming up?
Beau: Probably after that, yeah.
What bands would you like to tour with?
Beau: Underoath, In Flames, i don't know, there's a lot of bands.
Did you always know that being in a band was what you wanted to do?
Beau: I always wanted to play music, and I've know that at a very early age but being in a band is the only way you can do that unless you want to be a pop star.
How long have you been playing guitar?
Beau: umm, Oh wow, haha, umm since I was 15.
Over the years, you have done a lot of touring, what is your best and worst tour memory?
Beau: I don't know....To be honest, after a while it all kinda blurs together, you know, and the best usually seems to be whatever is current right now, you know, because every show I have i always really enjoy, and its not really a thing where i look back and i say, oh man those sucked. Although there has been a few shows where i've played really bad and when the guys bring it up then i remember but for the most part its good
Have a favorite place to tour in?
Beau: I would say at home. I like playing here.
Here are some questions from your fans:
How did you come to record the songs "Show Me Yo Bootyhole" and "Rap Party"?
Beau: Oh haha, It's a good thing you got me to do this.
Tina: yeah.
Beau: That's just chris and I. We listen to a lot different styles of music and its hard for us to write, you know, all Saosin songs, you know. Chris and I write all sorts of songs, we write rap songs, we write pop songs, we write metal songs, we write everything, you know, we kinda have to get that out of our system sometimes, you know, and we had some friends in from out of town and they were visiting us, i think it was like 5 years ago now, like right after Translating The Name came out. And Chris and I were in the studio with them and we were like, dude, let's write a joke rap song! We just kinda goofed around and i think we gave it to a couple friends, you know, and all of a sudden i think someone put it on the internet and said it was Saosin and it was not a Saosin song.
If you could go back into time, what time period would you go back to?
Beau: Probably like gladiator or like 300 Era. I would love to have like a pet woolly mammoth
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Beau: Right know, I live in Los Angeles, I like being up there because I end up doing a lot of production work stuff like that for bands so thats easy to work up there. But I think later in life, like I was just over in Bali and I was with my girlfriend and I was just like, I would totally move out there, but like way in the sticks, and be the old man that lives there that has no TV and no radio or anything, I could totally do that.
What's the best show you've attended?
Beau: It was in 2000, I think. I think it was at Kona Lanes on Harvard Blvd. There used to be a bowling ally there. I saw Mars Volta and there was like 15 people there. It was before they were popular. And I saw them and I was like "You guys are the best band I've ever seen!"
Describe each of the other band members in 2 words.
Beau: Lets see Cove, umm little puppy. Chris, umm mom. Alex, umm laid back. Justin, umm let's see here, interesting.
If you were deserted on an island and had to choose one other band members and two objects, what/who would you bring?
Beau: I'd probably choose my self.
Tina: Can't live with the other guys?
Beau: haha yeah. Two objects... I know its kinda sexist but can i bring my girlfriend?
Tina: Sure.
Beau: Ok, there's one object and i'd bring my guitar, actually no a piano.
Thank you for doing this interview, and do you have any last words for the readers at ForTheSound?
Beau: Thanks, Thanks to everybody, were super excited about putting the record out and everyone's been supportive so thank you to everyone.
