A Skylit Drive – Adelphia
Its Thursday July 2nd 2009, and my day went by relatively fast. No traffic on my way to work and none on my way home, pretty sweet if you ask me. My boss was gone for the day to take an extended holiday weekend and everything was looking up….with that said lets dive into the new album from A Skylit Drive which hit my car stereo on my ride to and from work. The new album from A Skylit Drive seemed like a small improvement from their previous releases. The vocals are more like able and the overall sound as a band seems to have been taken to another level, so I guess things for A Skylit Drive are looking up as well.
The album really doesn’t sweep you off your feet though, they keep with the pop-screamo sound that seems to be the trend this year (Don’t Ask Me Why). Each track seems to be its own, with the whispers and change of tone in vocals however they lack consistency and don’t provide us any depth in creativity. I believe my main complaint is that each song is entirely too long. To many lyrics, to many of the same repetitive riffs. Also I wasn’t able to make out half of the vocals, too much noise going on in the background. It would be way different if we were treated to catchy guitar riffs and drum beats but we weren’t.
I have followed the group since their last release and I do compliment on an upgrade, however I don’t think much concentration was aimed on grasping the listeners attention. I found myself bored and with a headache. I really want to give these guys a chance, I feel like there is something pulling me into their style of music, perhaps in their next album they will reach out and give us that hook that we need.
